Sintel is an Open Source Movie by the Blender Foundation. It already has many many fans throughout the world and time is due to make it accessible to even more people.
It's like so often a long series of coincidences that lead to this project: dubbing an Open Source Movie. The obvious choice for the first release was Franconian, or maybe we should use the official name East Franconian. Said and done: the voice recordings were finished just yesterday and J.i.M. has been working a lot to get them all in. We also translated the song and subtitles. Both are already available - they are attached below this article. The first version of the film is going to be released just in time for the "Tag der Franken" (Day of Franconians) on 4 July, 2011.
We deliberately chose to not use studio recordings, even if we had the possibility to do so. What we want to show you is that by re-using the wonderful work done by the Durian team adding just some work using fairly normal computers you can get really good results for any of the many endangered languages listed in the UNESCO atlas of endangered languages.
Thanks to J.i.M., Local Content and Kultürla for the expetise provided - and now have a look at the first Franconian sentences in the trailer we created from scratch.
